Lietnhom Child Friendly Space Holds Ribbon Cutting

Lietnhom in Gorgial East, Warrap State held its ribbon cutting of the first-ever Child Friendly Space (CFS) on Tuesday, July 16 in the presence of Hon. Victoria Tito Bimo, Minister for Social Development, Members of Parliament, Women’s Group, parents and schoolchildren.             

Funded by World Vision Australia, the CFS has multipurpose usage but most importantly it creates safe environment for approximately 400 children in a bid to promote their participation through play and psychosocial support by social workers.  The facility will also be used as a drop in center for unaccompanied and separated children to get interim care as well as a referral/transition center for abused and vulnerable children who seeks special attention by service providers.
 

"This is a wonderful day for our children. On behalf of the State of Warrap, we say ‘Thank You Very Much World Vision South Sudan’ for all it is doing to improve the social welfare of our children," exclaimed Hon. Victoria, as she stood between Commissioner of Lietnhom Akot Lual Akot; Ms. Jenipher Onyango, World Vision Zonal Programme Manager – Warrap State; and John Majok Bol, Director General at the Ministry of Social Development.

Minister Victoria used the middle-sized scissors to cut a white ribbon with a large bow that underscored Warrap State – World Vision healthy partnership.  With a total budget of USD 92,000, the child friendly space covers 75m x 75m of space.  It has ample parking in front and inside the compound; contains one multipurpose big hall for children indoor games and events, and has four toilets (2 for boys and 2 for girls). 


World Vision South Sudan started the project entitled “Recovery and Reintegration of Children Affected by War in South Sudan (CAWSS)” in January 2010 with the aim of contributing to the recovery and reintegration of children affected by war in Gogrial West and Gogrial East Counties in South Sudan. Some of the key achievements include;5 child friendly spaces (CFS) constructed and availed: 2 in Gogrial West County, 2 in Gogrial East County and one in each of the Tonj Counties.   89 (23 girls and 66 boys) youths trained in different skills including driving, tailoring, computer, and carpentry in a bid to improve the livelihood for vulnerable children/families through income generating skills.

229 (81 males and 148 females) vulnerable families in the five Payams of Gogrial West and three Payams of Gogrial East were assisted with seeds, farming tools and technical support to supplement their livelihood.  139 unaccompanied and separated children were traced and reunified with their respective parents, families and guardians both in Gogrial West and Gogrial East counties. The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development.
